Plans for April
April Announcements…
Thursday night classes end on April 10th.
I am planning to run a specialty class in Veil in the big gym on April 17th from 7:15-8:30 pm. This class would be independent of the regular sessions and open to all students, beginner and beyond, even those students who have never taken a single bellydance class ever!
I will have veils available to loan. However if you want your own veil I recommend a length of fabric - 45 inches wide, by 3 yards. Think this is too big for you? This is actually the minimum size recommended for beginners. OR if you really want to customize a veil… you can measure the distance fingertip to fingertip of your fully outstretched arms and add an additional 6 inches to both ends. Fabrics to use: chiffon, polyester, georgette or china silk- something lightweight that flows well. The fee for this stand alone class will be $10 paid in advance, $12 paid on night of class.
**Special Note**
on Monday April 21st at 6:30 pm I will be speaking at the Essex Public Library.
on the topic of
“Myths and Midriffs”
This will be a fun discussion dealing with the most common misconceptions associated with Bellydance. Performance and demo class to follow. Everyone welcome!
The next session of Thursday classes will begin on April 24th.
Beginners class -6:30-7:40 pm Want to learn new moves that you can use on any dance floor? The focus of this class is basic movements, posture and technique. Learn to communicate with your body, and string a few movements together into combinations. Come out and have some fun! Class size is limited, this room holds 10-12 students.
Beyond Beginners - 7:45- 9 pm This class is for students who already have a basic movement vocabulary and want to continue. Our focus will be combos and easy choreography. Construction of your own combinations encouraged. Learn to express yourself through dance. Space is limited, because we are working with traveling steps, limit is 8-10.
MONDAYS 7:00-8:15 this is currently a mixed levels class, scheduled at the request of a specific group of students. I am open to continuing this time period if interest remains at the conclusion of this session after May 5th.
Location: Classes are presently held in the Essex Community Centre, 35 Gosfield Townline West, in Essex (It’s right next to the New Public Library Location.) in the Old Holy Names school. The Veil class will be held in the gymnasium, but regular classes are down the hall in the “Superior” Room.
Other Times and Dates?
What if these time slots don’t work for you - but you still want to try it? Want to learn something specific? Possibilities do exist for additional classes and will be made available depending on interest. I do try to accommodate those students who are serious about learning. Have your own group that wants to learn? Individual or Group lessons can be arranged. Fee is dependent on the costs incurred for running the class, number of students and scheduling.
